It's Never Too Late

I have not posted in a few months, but it led to the inspiration for me to get back to blogging. Through this rawly honest blog post, I am hoping you can be reminded that you are not alone in feeling the way that you do and that it is ok to ask questions and figure things out.

Whether you look on social media, online forums, and so forth, it is all related to gear, tips/hacks, what to do and not do, and etc. As much as being knowledgable in all of that is, not many people take the time to really and honestly talk about the challenges of getting started or even just getting back in the game.

For the past year, I have taken a somewhat hiatus from photography and taken a much needed break from things. Over the past few months, I started doing shows again. One show in particular stands out, not because of the show itself, but because of one conversation that took place (which even sparked the inspiration behind this post).

While standing off to the side of the stage waiting to get in the front stage pit, a person in VIP (who I never met before) was standing beside me and we started talking about taking photos at shows. To me, it was just a normal occurence, something I use to do all the time at shows. However, the direction the conversation started taking surprised me and when I heard him say, "I always wanted to get into concert photography, but I feel like I'm too old to get into it now. I feel like it's too late for me." That simple statement jarred me because I realized I am in the same boat as him because I also have been riding the fence and struggling with getting started again.

So I decided to write this blog post as a reminder for all of you who need the encouragement, myself included, that no matter if you are trying to get started again or get things started for the first time, you are not alone. It will be tough, scary, anxiety ridden, but if it has been laid on your heart and you feel a passionate draw to it, then pursue it. Do not let anxiety, fear, doubts, or even thoughts of "it's too late", "I'm too old", "I'm so out of the game to catch up now", "what if it's not the same as it use to be", or whatever your thoughts are, talk you out of doing something that you love. I want you to know that it is NEVER too late to get started. It will be challenging, but we will get through it together.

Your Daily Reminder: Today is a brand new day. A start of something new. Take a deep breath. Pick up your camera. Take those photos. Have fun!

Just like Wayne Gretzky said, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."
